What bowel preparations are required before the colonoscopy?
Before the procedure, your healthcare team will give you sufficient team for preparation. At least two weeks before you will get the instructions. If your bowel is not full empty colonoscopy cannot be performed successfully and the procedure might have to be repeated. What you should eat or drink two three days before the colonoscopy?
Before the procedure, you might be asked to stop eating nuts, seeds, corn. Also, a low fiber diet should be avoided. One day before the procedure you will strictly be stopped from eating solid food items and alcohol.
You can drink plenty of clear liquids like tea, black coffee, apple juice, water. To stay hydrated drinking extra fluid is helpful.
Right before four hours of your colonoscopy, you will not be allowed to drink or eat anything. While you are doing your bowel preparations one day before you should drink a good amount of fluids.
What you should discuss with your doctor before the colonoscopy?
Before the procedure discuss the following medical conditions with your doctor:
- Heart and lung conditions
- Pregnancy
- Allergic to any medicines
If a person is having diabetes or taking medicines that might impact blood clotting then before colonoscopy adjustment in intake of such medicines might be required.
What happens after colonoscopy is done?
- You will be kept under observation for at least 30 minutes.
- You may feel like cramps, gas sensation but it does not last for a long time.
- You can begin with your normal diet after the procedure.
